Prof. Teri Odom, Chair of the School of Chemistry in Northwestern University, Visited QMES and Interacted with Undergraduates
On 8thJuly 2019, Prof. Teri Odom, Chair of the Chemistry Department at Northwestern University (NU), visited QMES. She talked with teachers and interacted with undergraduates on the topic Highlights of Northwestern University. Prof. Kong Jie, Dean of QMES, Prof. Fan Xiaoli, Vice Dean of QMES, Associate Prof. Liu Jianxi, class tutor of QMES, from School of Materials Science and Engineering and Associate Prof. Zhuang Qiang from School of Natural and Applied Sciences, NPU attended the meeting and the interaction.
During the meeting, Prof. Kong Jie, Dean of QMES, introduced the background, current operation and development prospects of QMES. Kong Jie said that Northwestern University and the leading academic research and teaching capacity of the Chemistry Department in NU is highly attractive to students in QMES. It’s sincerely hoped that QMES would keep interaction and explore more cooperation in the fields of research, teaching and talents education, etc.
Prof. Odom appreciated the academic exchanges between NPU and NU. She highly commended on the implementation of academic tutor system and full-English teaching model. She expressed willingness of keeping continuous and stable contact for further academic and teaching cooperation.
After the meeting, Prof. Odom delivered a speech on Highlights of Northwestern University to the undergraduates in QMES. She introduced the leading status, outstanding alumni and international cooperation of NU, and the administrative team, teaching faculty, graduate programs, academic research, study and social practice in the chemistry department of NU. Prof. Odom emphasized the importance attached to the undergraduates education and the remarkable outcome of graduates education in NU. In the final part, she answered questions raised by the students.
