Convenor for Science and Engineering English Introduction. Mr. Alan Allman has been a Teaching Fellow for Queen Mary University of London since the summer of 2017 and teaching Academic English on the QMES Joint Programme since September 2017. Alan has worked in English Language Teaching for 15 years in a variety of countries. Alan’s academic interests include Academic Literacies, Assessment and Learning Technologies.
Agne Kocnevaite

Convenor of Applied English for Science and Engineering. Ms. Agne Kocnevaite graduated from Queen Mary University of London in 2017 with an MA in Applied Linguistics for English Language Teaching. She worked at International House Bristol and on the pre-sessional programme at QMUL before joining the QMUL and NPU JEI in Xi’an, China as a Teaching Fellow. Agne is interested in teaching English as a Lingua Franca and the Academic Literacies approach.
Luqman Khalil Ahmed

Teaching Fellow for English Language. Before joining QMUL, Luqman Khalil Ahmed has worked for different universities, which include The University of Leeds, Durham University and East Anglia University. With these institutions, he taught English for Academic Purposes including critical reading and writing to pre-master students on business and media communication courses. His experience also consists of teaching pre-undergraduate students on STEM international foundation courses where he provided them the academic support to successfully enroll into their desired undergraduate degrees.

Faith Nightingale

Convenor for PES Modules. Ms. Faith Nightingale first joined QMUL and taught English in the JEI after working in the Middle East for 8 years developing and teaching programmes for the police, military, aviation and engineers. She now aims to enhance the students’ professional and academic skills for success in their future engineering careers. Faith is interested in curriculum design, ESAP and using technology in the classroom.

Li Wang

Senior lecturer for PDP III. Dr Li Wang obtained her PhD of Structural Mechanics at University of the West of England. She spent most of her career in industry, including Roll-Royce and Unilever. In 2022, Dr Li Wang joined SEMS at QMUL as a Senior Lecturer. She teaches topics on personal development plan and engineering design. Her research interests are on material development and applying technologies in education.

Andrew Spowage

Senior Lecturer in Materials Science. Dr. Andrew Spowage’s engineering work focuses on the performance of materials, specifically selecting materials for a given application and investigating them when they fail in service. His scholarship portfolio covers university transitions, engineering and project management and how to integrated professional practice into engineering programmes. His administrative roles cover quality and teaching excellence for QMUL Engineering Programmes at NPU as well as Industrial Relations in China. Andrew’s teaching and research interests contain two broad areas: 1) The Performance of Materials 2) Education and Engineering Management.
