QMES Held the Thirteenth Meeting of Student-Staff Liaison Committee
At the end of spring, the wind is gentle and the grass is green. As the British teachers returned to school, on April 23rd, the 13th meeting of Student-Staff Liaison Committee (SSLC) of QMES was successfully held offline. Fan Xiaoli, Dean of QMES; Cheng Yin, Vice Dean and Director of SSLC; Li Wang, Director of the Student Affairs and Co-Director of SSLC; Faith Nightingale, Director of the Teaching Affairs; Qi Yue, Huang Quanzhang, Deng Xinru, Alan Allman, and student representatives and course representatives from all grades participated in this meeting which was presided over by Cheng Yin.
Cheng Yin first introduced the participants and appreciated their attendance, and organized them to collectively voted to approve the minutes of the 12th SSLC. Subsequently, in response to the problems encountered in the study and daily life, the student representatives and course representatives conducted heated discussions. The seniors presented difficulties and doubts they encountered regarding curriculum design, transcript updates and graduation projects. Deng Xinru and Faith provided patient and meticulous responses on these issues, expressing that the school has adopted students' reasonable suggestions on curriculum arrangement and will continue to optimize the schedule of senior courses, exams and graduation projects to alleviate academic pressure and create favourable conditions for students to complete their graduation projects with high quality.
The student representatives from freshmen to juniors had detailed communication with the teacher committee on topics such as classroom teaching, infrastructure construction in the teaching area and extracurricular cultural activities, and put forward multiple constructive suggestions. Fan Xiaoli provided feedback on the students’ confusion concerning course difficulty, encouraging them to accept and overcome challenges and strive to achieve self-breakthroughs. Cheng Yin said that the school will continue to organize "Empowering Future·Global Glance" international competency research activities, and at the same time, rely on the QMES Students Union, the QMES Youth League Committee and clubs to carry out various cultural practice activities, enriching students' extracurricular life and broadening their horizons. She hoped that students could actively participate in traditional Chinese cultural experience activities and continuously improve their cultural literacy.
What’s more, the students expressed great appreciation for the opportunity to have face-to-face communication with foreign teachers. Their enthusiasm for learning has never been higher, the teacher-student interaction has been significantly strengthened, and the performance of classroom tasks is also quite excellent.
Finally, Cheng Yin gave a summary of the meeting, expressed gratitude for the suggestions and comments of the faculty and student committee members, and preliminarily determined the time for the next meeting. The SSLC has ended the online communication mode featuring a time difference and lasting for nearly three years, building a harmonious and smooth communication platform for teachers and students, and enhancing effective communication between teachers and students. SSLC will fully play its role in guiding, helping and serving students' growth and development, creating a broader development space for promoting the cultivation of international and innovative talents for QMES.
