Seminar of Trial English Lecture held in QMES

In aiming to enhance teachers' ability of full English lecturing, further promoting internationalized education quality, on March 16, a seminar of trial English lecture for teachers was held in 218 meeting room of Center for Faculty and Teaching Development, at Youyi Campus, NPU. The seminar was hosted by Vice Dean Fan Xiaoli of QMES.

Teachers attending the seminar were Zhang Ying, Yuan Zhanbin, Cui Xiaomin from School of Natural and Applied Sciences, Xi Hengdong from School of Aeronautics, Zhang Juan and Zhao Bin from School of Mechanics, Civil Engineering and Architecture. Besides, we also invited 5 teaching experts from the US and Britain to be our judges and 3 American students to be attendance so as to simulate the true classroom. The seminar employed such ways as teaching demonstrations, to answer students and experts' questions and on-site discussions to find out weaknesses and strengths of teachers in such aspects as teaching design, contents organization, classroom lecturing and put forward corresponding improvement suggestions.

Each teacher had thorough preparations and shared fluent oral English, various teaching methods within the 20-minute lecture. Then the experts put forward pertinent comments and suggestionsin the aspects of teaching methods and skills, lecturing arrangement and status of student-teacher interaction. Everybody actively joined in the discussion with concentrating on how to effectively combine students' English study with classroom lecturing and inspire students’ deep thoughts of specific knowledge points in modules in science like computing method and hydromechanics.

As required by Education Programme of QMES, each teacher was asked to have a trial lecture and experts would give the corresponding assessments in aspects of lecturing expressions, blackboard writing, teaching methods and teacher-student interactions. Teachers who were succeeded in passing the trial lecture will have access to teach in the QMES. This trial lecture was prepared as an entrance examination for those candidates. Additionally, we still have some overseas training programs so as to help teachers to get certificates of Higher Education Quality Assurance System of Britain.

The seminar was the first activity hosted by International Teaching and Research Center of QMES. The Center dedicates organized serial lectures, training, seminars with practicesand data analyses in aspects of teachers teaching methods and students’ passion of study with concentrating on teachers of QMES so as to enhance teachers’ full English teaching ability, inspiring students’ passion of learning and accelerating the pace of international education of QMES.
