Students from QMES were Invited as Bilingual Docent of World Aquatics Diving World Cup- Xi 'an 2023
The World Aquatics Diving World Cup- Xi 'an 2023 was held in the Swimming and Diving Hall of Xi 'an Olympic Sports Center from April 14 to 16. In order to help foreign friends to experience and understand traditional Chinese culture, intangible cultural heritage and special food, the host invited five students from QMES, namely Qu Yifan, Xu Weihang, Ma Zhiheng, Li Fengyuan and Ye Yuanming, to give a bilingual explanation. During the activity, the students fully demonstrated the historical heritage of the ancient capital of Xi 'an, also highlighting the enterprising spirit of NPUers.
Founded in 1979, the Diving World Cup is the world's highest diving single event held by World Aquatics (FINA), which, together with the FINA World Championships and the Olympic Games, is known as the "three world diving events". The competition is an international A-level event with a great influence and high level. It is not only a grand meeting of the international diving community, a major event to test the diving level of all countries, but also the highest international single sport competition ever held in Xi 'an. In this competition, China won all nine gold medals and two silver medals, topping the medal tally. What's more, Xi 'an, as the host city, was highly praised by FINA officials and participating teams in terms of venue facilities, service, experience and atmosphere. FINA's official website also heaped special praise on the city. To make athletes from all over the world experience the traditional Chinese culture and the charm of the millennia-old capital of Xi 'an closely, a variety of intangible cultural heritage exhibitions and cultural exchange activities were carried out at the hotels, restaurants and venues where the athletes were located.
At the gym and restaurant aisle of the hotel where the athletes stayed, the organizer specially designed a "cultural street" displaying traditional Chinese culture, including theme scenes such as Tang costume and Hanfu experience area, Chang 'an food area, intangible cultural heritage in Chang'an Market, and Xi 'an Characteristic cultural and creative exhibition area. Five students of our school were arranged as interpreters for the intangible cultural heritage exchange, responsible for the English introduction of intangible cultural heritage projects such as wooden ladles, shadow figures and dough sculpture, and assisting foreign friends to hand-make intangible cultural heritage products on site.
When a British contestant heard that the students who translated for him were from a Chinese-foreign cooperative school of NPU, he was very interested to know when they would come to London, and highly recognized the students' English proficiency and professional knowledge. The students who participated in the activity felt quite impressed by the opportunity to have close contact with sports stars.
In recent years, QMES has fully implemented the Party's educational concepts, the university's policy deployment, and the talent training goal of "Four Abilities Integration". With the strong support of NPU, all the teachers and students of the school work together to continuously absorb high-quality educational resources from both China and the UK, and have made gratifying achievements in talent training. QMES will continue to expand students' international vision, insist on cultivating talents with patriotic feelings, knowledge of international rules, strong professional competitiveness and high comprehensive quality.
