Experience Sharing Meeting of Studying in World-Famous Universities Successfully Held by QMES

On November 22, 2020, Jia Linlin, who obtained a master’s degree in Material Corrosion Engineering of University of Manchester, UK, gave an online experience sharing meeting for students of QMES.Combined with her real experience during her study in the UK,the meetingattracted23students from QMES.

Jia Linlin studied at Nanchang Hangkong University for her undergraduate degree. After obtaining a double degree in Materials Science and Engineering as well as Accounting, she went to University of Manchester to study for a master’s degree in Material Corrosion Engineering in 2019. With extensive experience in the fieldsof public relations and manpower consultation (medical apparatus and instruments), she hasworked as an HR atJohnson & Johnson, Philips, GE, Siemens, Roche Diagnostics, Changchun Di Rui and other companies, andshe wascompetent inrecruitment work.

Duringthe experience sharing meeting, Jia Linlin made a detailed introduction on the issues of “curriculum of materials scienceand majors we can choosein the UK”, “similarities and differences between British and domestic laboratories” and “how to seek job and internship opportunities in the UK”.The materials subject at the University of Manchester is mainly divided into two majors: Advanced Engineering Materials and Material Corrosion Engineering.There are some differences between the two majors in their direction and curriculum design, namely, the major of Advanced Engineering Materials is highly scientific and focuses on theoretical learning, while the major of Material Corrosion Engineering includes certain experimental parts, thus students can choose one of them according to their needs.Afterwards, Jia Linlin introduced the precautions for working in the laboratory of British universities.

During the process of exchange and interaction, students had a comprehensive and in-depth discussion with Jia Linlin on the topics of “application for master’s and doctoral programs of University of Manchester”, “arrangement of study and research during the master’s period”, “project and thesis writing”, etc.
