QMES Visited Chinese-Foreign Cooperative Education Institutes and Excellent Alumni’s Enterprise in Hainan Province for Investigation
From October 8th to 10th, QMES visited Hainan University-Arizona State University Joint International Tourism College (HAITC), Glasgow College Hainan at University of Electronic Science and Technology of China (Glasgow College Hainan, UESTC), Queen Mary School Hainan at Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications (Queen Mary School Hainan, BUPT), and Hainan Jinlin Investment Group for research and exchange. The visit aimed to broaden the ideas for Chinese-foreign cooperation in running school, learn from the experience of cultivating internationalized innovative talent, expand resources of students’ practice, and strengthen the construction of diversified platforms for talent training. The investigation team, led by Dai Fuping, Secretary of QMES Party committee, consisted of six members, including directors of all departments and relevant staff.
On October 8th, Wang Lin, Dean of HAITC, warmly received the investigation team. Subsequently, both parties engaged in a formal discussion and exchange of ideas. Zhang Xianfeng, Vice Dean of HAITC, and department heads were present at the meeting. During the meeting, Wang Lin provided a detailed introduction to the management, teaching, and student situation of the college, and the two sides had in-depth discussions and explorations on credit setting, faculty deployment, textbook approval, teaching supervision, student innovation and entrepreneurship, as well as enrolment efforts. Wang Lin emphasized that the college integrates Eastern and Western educational philosophies and training models, aiming to create a talent development pathway with the characteristics of internationalization, innovation and interdisciplinarity. In conjunction with regional features and policy guidance, HAITC has been continuously cultivating a greater number of tourism industry builders in Hainan, who possess a comprehensive understanding of international regulations, cross-cultural competency, and international competitiveness. Dai Fuping, Secretary of QMES Party committee, pointed out that HAITC has accumulated rich experience in talent cultivation since its establishment in 2017. The effective initiatives to support student innovation and entrepreneurship and the successful cases of various student activities are of great significance to QMES. Dai expressed the hope that the two sides can strengthen exchanges and cooperation in the future, and work together to promote the high-quality development of Chinese-foreign cooperative education.
On October 9th, the investigation team visited Glasgow College Hainan, UESTC, and conducted discussions and exchanges with Di Aiying, Party Secretary of Glasgow College Hainan, Liu Guanghui, Dean of Glasgow College Hainan, Wang Yinghua, Vice Party Secretary and Vice Dean of Glasgow College Hainan. The team also observed the overall educational environment of the college. At the meeting, both parties exchanged ideas on organizational structures, curriculum design, student recruitment, and the overall development of the Hainan International Education Innovation Pilot Zone. Dai Fuping stated that UESTC actively participated in constructing the National Hainan Free Trade Port and vigorously promoted the opening up of education to the world. In April 2022, the university officially established the Glasgow College in Hainan, which has successfully enrolled undergraduate students in two cohorts. Its pioneering experience and innovative exploration in the field of Chinese-foreign cooperative education provide inspiration for the following development of QMES. Dai Fuping expressed his hope that the two colleges can further cooperate, work hand in hand, and constantly enhance the level of internationalized innovative talent cultivation.
On October 10th, the investigation team went to Queen Mary School Hainan, BUPT, to conduct exchanges with Guo Li, Dean of Queen Mary School Hainan, Liu Chang, Vice Party Secretary, Liu Xinchao, Vice Dean, Kang Xiao, Director of the Party and Government Office, and Zheng Siyao, Director of the Teaching Office. During the meeting, Sun Hongxiang, a member of the Standing Committee of the Party Committee and Vice President of BUPT, received the investigation team and extended a warm welcome. Afterwards, Kang Xiao made a detailed introduction of the organizational structure, development history and educational features of the college, after which the two sides engaged in discussions and exchanges regarding enrolment work, students’ pursuit of further education abroad, and scholarship programs. Dai Fuping noted that BUPT has a profound history of Chinese-foreign cooperative education; the cultivation of internationalized innovative talents has achieved remarkable results; and the creative exploration of school running in the Hainan Free Trade Port has been successfully landed and carried out smoothly. As one of the cooperative units of QMUL, QMES will actively learn from its effective experience and unique practices based on the actual situation, to boost the quality and efficiency of the various works of QMES.
Besides, the team also visited the Jiazi General Airport of Jinlin Investment Group in Haikou for discussion on the construction of college-enterprise practice base and other related matters. Wang Ji, NPU alumnus of 1986, and some alumni representatives greeted the research team warmly and led the team to watch the flight performance of aeromodelling. Wang Ji, who was the chairman and Party Secretary of the Group, is an outstanding expert with great contributions in Hainan Province, a key expert of Hainan Provincial Party Committee and Provincial Government and a leading talent in Hainan Province. At the meeting, Wang Ji introduced in detail the development history and main industries of the Group, and then the two sides started an in-depth discussion on the establishment of a cooperation platform for students’ practice and labour education. Dai Fuping pointed out that Jinlin Investment Group has a wealth of practice and education resources, including general aviation airport, Hongdao ranch, planting and production base of medical herbs, and tropical plant forest farm, which could be built into practical education bases to enrich students’ learning experience and innovate the path of talent cultivation. Wang Ji stated that on the occasion of the 85th anniversary of our alma mater, we would like to strongly support the exchanges and cooperation with various units of NPU and actively contribute to NPU’s construction of world-class university with Chinese characteristics.
This investigation yielded fruitful results, further enhancing mutual understanding with other institutions and alumni enterprises, while showing the cutting-edge developments in Chinese-foreign educational cooperation. These accomplishments lay a solid foundation for inter-school and school-enterprise communication and mutual exchange, contribute to jointly promote the construction of “double world-class initiative” of universities and promote the development of Chinese-foreign educational cooperation.
