QMES Held a Career Planning and Development Symposium for the Cohort of 2021 Students
To accurately gathering the personal development status of 2021 class students and assist them in making graduation career plans, from October to November 2023, QMES organized in-depth discussions in the form of small class meetings for a total of 12 classes from two majors . The discussions focused on the completion of students’ personal development, aiming to promote the work of undergraduate graduation career planning. Dai Fuping, Secretary of the QMES Party Committee, Cheng Yin, Vice Secretary of the QMES Party Committee, as well as Bi Jialong from the Student International Development Center and Zhuang Qiang, the counsellor of 2021 students, together with all form tutors of each class, participated in this forum.
During the symposium, each student shared their graduation career intentions and personal preparation situation based on their actual situation. The college leaders analyzed the current employment situation from a broader perspective and guided students to plan for the future. The counselors and tutors classified and organized the problems encountered by students in the processes of postgraduate recommendation, postgraduate entrance examination, and employment, and explained them in detail. The teachers from the Student International Development Center provided detailed policy interpretations for students who intend to study abroad, focusing on professional choices and application processes. Taking into account individual differences, they suggested that some students should prepare for both postgraduate entrance examinations and studying abroad. They introduced specific pathways to apply through the green channel to study at QMUL.
According to statistical results, the majority of the students have chosen to pursue further education. There is a concentrated interest in overseas applications, with popular choices including prestigious institutions such as the University of Cambridge, Imperial College London, University College London, Swiss Fed Inst Tech, National University of Singapore, and Nanyang Technological University. For those aiming for domestic postgraduate recommendations, top-tier universities like Tsinghua University and Peking University are among their targets. As for those planning to take the postgraduate entrance examination, their desired institutions include NPU, Harbin Institute of Technology, Fudan University, and other leading universities. The QMES leaders and teachers provided personalized guidance and advice based on each student’s aspirations for further education and employment, patiently addressing the questions raised by the students.
The convening of this forum has helped students further strengthen their ideals and beliefs, establish lofty goals, and accurately position themselves based on their situations. QMES will rely on the Student International Development Center to provide continuous guidance on personal development planning, study abroad, further education, and job seeking, actively expanding students’ international horizons and enhancing their global competence. And fully committed to ensuring the employment and further education rates of the 2024 graduates.
