On November 9th 2017, the Appointment Ceremony of NPU Adjunct Professors was held in Meeting Room 402 in Old Library, Youyi Campus. Prof. Ton Peijs and Prof. Gleb Sukhorukov form QMUL were appointed as adjunct professors in NPU. Zhang Weihong,Vice President; Zhang Fuli,Vice Director of OIC,relevant teachers and staffs of School of Material Science and Engineering, School of Natural and Applied Sciences, School of Mechanical Engineering, School of Mechanics, Civil Engineering and Architecture, and Queen Mary University of London Engineering School, NPU attended the ceremony. The ceremony was hosted by Prof. Kong Jie, the dean of JEI.

Prof. Kong Jie and Prof. Shang Ligave brief introductions on the academic achievement of Prof.Ton Peijs and Prof. Gleb Sukhorukov. Zhang Weihong, the Vice President, issued them offers and the school badges.

Zhang Weihong expressed warm welcome to the attendance of the two professors and hoped that they could offer more guidance and help for NPU’s internationalization, discipline development and talent-cultivation based on School of Materials Science and Engineering, School of Natural and Applied Sciences, JEI as well as NPU-QMUL JRI-AMAS. Their help could help NPU with further development and new breakthroughs in materials science. Zhang Weihong also required other relevant departments and offices to keep in touch with the two professors to take the advantage of NPU and QMUL in getting achievements in teaching and researching, and contributing to a solid foundation for the further cooperation between two universities.

Prof. Ton Peijs said that it’s his honor to be NPU adjunct professor and he would further enhance the cultivation and research cooperation in materials science to promote profound development and innovation in both NPU and QMUL. Prof. Gleb Sukhorukov showed his gratitude to NPU and said that he would use the public research platform to contribute to discipline development, scientific research and talents cultivation of NPU.

Biography of Prof.Ton Peijs

Ton Peijs is professor of QMUL. His research interests cover the whole ‘chain of knowledge’ from processing and characterisation to the performance evaluation and applications of polymer composites. Fundamental research focuses on the investigation and modelling of all aspects related to structure-property relationships in polymer composites, including the development of micromechanical models, which can be used for future intelligent material design. His group has pioneered the development of eco-composites; this includes work on bio-based composites and the development of fully recyclable all-polymer composites such as PURE® and Tegris® now commercialised by Lankhorst Pure-Composites BV and its licensee by Milliken. Prf. Peijs has published over 250 SCI papers on Nat. Commun., Materials Today, Adv. Funct. Mater., Polymer, Compos. Sci. Tech., Composites Part A, etc. with citation for more than 8,000 times by SCI, over 10,000 times by Google Scholar. H-index is 57. He has got 80 conference reports and 6 patents. He was awarded Dutch Polymer Award. Currently, he is Chief Scientist of Research Centre of the Functional Polymers & Composites of NPU -QMUL JRI-AMAS.

Biography of Prof.Gleb Sukhorukov

Gleb Sukhorukovis QMUL professor, team leader of biopolymer-bioorganic interface, and prestigious international scholar in biomaterial and engineering. He was appraised and elected as “The top 10 Russian scientists in the world” by Forbes in 2011. His main research achievements and interests are micro- and nanoencapsulation, remote navigation and release of encapsulated materials, (Bio)-chemical reactions in restricted volumes, nanoengineering of colloid particles, thin films, drug delivery, multifunctional materials, artificial cells, intracellular sensing etc. Prof. Sukhorukov has published more than 250 scientific papers on Nature Materials, Advanced Materials, Journal of American Chemical Society, Angewandte Chemie International Edition, Nano Letters, ACS Nano, Chemical Society Reviews, etc. with more than 22,000 times’ citation and H index 81. He has joined the initiation of several biomaterial application companies such as “Capsulution NanoScience”AG, “Razvitie Biotechnologii”. Currently, he is Chief Scientist of Research Centre of Biomaterials and Engineering of NPU-QMUL JRI-AMAS.
