From November 27th to 29th, Glasgow College, the University of Electronic Science and Technology of China (UESTC), successfully held its 10th Global Student Leadership Forum. Themed “Youth Action in a Global Perspective: Building Bridges for Cross-Cultural Communication”, the event was attended by four delegates from QMES, including Yang Fenping, Director of Student Affairs at QMES, and undergraduate students Jiang Jizhang, from the class of 2021, Yong Siyu, from the class of 2022, and Zeng Ziqin, from the class of 2023. They joined representatives from 12 esteemed universities to enhance mutual understanding, engage in shared learning experiences, and foster personal and professional growth.
During the ice-breaking session, the QMES delegation engaged in discussions and exchanges with representatives from other participating institutions, actively introducing the QMES’s educational features and achievements in talent development.
During this period, Jiang Jizhang, a student representative from QMES, delivered a presentation on the theme “Building a Cross-Cultural Communication Bridge for Students through Chinese-Foreign Cooperative Education”. He introduced the team’s thoughts and strategies on constructing such a bridge in an increasingly globalised world and the ongoing interaction between Eastern and Western civilisations. He also reported on the initiatives and outcomes of QMES in fostering international talents with a strong sense of national identity, global perspective, and cross-cultural communication skills.
In the themed debate on the topic “The Impact of Technological Development on the Implementation of International Humanitarian Law: More Beneficial or More Harmful?”, Yong Siyu, the first speaker for the opposition, argued that while promoting technological innovation and development, it is crucial to pay close attention to its impact on international humanitarian law. She emphasised that technological progress should always be directed towards improving the quality of human life, maintaining ecological balance, and ensuring social stability.
QMES has participated in the International Student Leadership Forum at Glasgow College for seven consecutive years, providing a platform for young students to engage in diverse exchanges and enhance their comprehensive skills. QMES will continue to enrich and refine its international talent development pathways, fostering and strengthening students’ global competence, creativity, scientific leadership, teamwork, and other essential qualities. QMES remains committed to broadening students’ international perspectives and enhancing their sense of mission and responsibility.
